Brady's New Nanny!

Austin & I have had a hard time finding help with Brady while I am at work and Austin is at school. In Omaha, the hospital I worked for had a daycare associated with it... which was wonderful. They were open nurse's hours, and only had to pay per hour.... unlike most daycares where you pay for the whole week.

This summer, Austin has been watching Brady while I work... since, ya know, he didn't have a job down here.
Well.... Austin started school a couple weeks ago and we had to put Brady back in daycare.... and pay a weekly rate because they don't offer hourly daycares down here. Brady lasted 2 days in daycare before we pulled him out. There is something not too comforting about picking up your baby 2 days in a row & him be laying on the ground crying his eyes out.... no crib for him... and them being over their baby-caretaker quota. It was awful.

So.... conveniently my little sister, Bridget, graduated from college in May, and spent 2 months riding her bike across the country.... and is now home.... JOBLESS! :) So, we jumped at the opportunity for her to watch Brady while I am at work & Austin is at school.... and while she tries to find a job.....
It is wonderful! She sends me pictures of Brady throughout the day.... which thrills me! It is my favorite part of work.... (actually the only part of work I like..... sneaking into the bathroom and looking at pictures of my baby boy....)

This is wonderful getting cute little pictures of my baby.... however.... except when she takes pictures of his dirty diapers.... she does not like to change them very much.... and makes sure to let me know whenever he goes...... (#2)
So..... we are super excited to have her as our Nanny.... is it bad that we secretly wish she never finds a job???

When to Quit Breastfeeding?

So today marks Brady's 6 month birthday.... and my 6 months of breastfeeding. Brady (and I) have been fortunate enough to have been exclusively breastfed. So, now the time comes when people are asking me more and more every day, "When are you going to quit breastfeeding?" This has got me contemplating the issue more and more..... if so many people are asking, then it MUST be about time to quit, right? Well... I asked my trusty Facebook friends and got TONS of responses on how long everyone plans on or did breastfeed their children. To my surprise, almost everyone breastfed for more than 6 months!

Here were my goals on breastfeeding:

Before Brady was born: "I'll give it a try, and if it works, great!"

Right after he was born: "I'll breastfeed for 3 months, then pump until I dry out."

At 3 months: "I'll keep going until he has teeth, then I'll HAVE to stop!"

Now (after teeth): "Teeth aren't too big of a deal, yet. (he only has 2). I'll keep going for a bit longer...."

So, as you can see.... my goals keep changing. This is good in some cases... but I am not sure if it is in THIS particular case.... you see.... I think I might end up like this lady:

The Haircut Extravaganza!

So... in college I cut Austin's hair... Well, until he had to get a near-buzz cut. You see, I always cut the top of his hair with a really long guard on the clippers... well... I once forgot to switch the guard... and he had to get his hair cut.... very short. After that day I got my hair cutting privileges taken away from me... That was in 2003.... it is now 2010, 7 years later... and he let me try again.... (This time I just used scissors to cut the top!)

He was relatively surprised that I didn't give him another buzz cut... but decided now was the time to let me try again since, well, he has nothing going on but hanging out with Brady... Speaking of Brady.... we thought that we would get a glimpse of what he might look like when he is older....
and it was so much fun we kept snapping pictures!

more and more!
And then we figured we'd jump into his adult years and give him a little 'stach.

Mylie & Me

You may remember from a previous post that we moved the dogs down to San Antonio a couple months before we moved. We did this because we didn't want the dogs to tear up our backyard while we were trying to sell our house. Well, I think we got a little used to having no dogs.... and the dogs were outside for the entire time they were in San Antonio before we got here.... and they, lost their manners. So, long story short, we haven't been letting them inside too often. In Omaha they were definitely indoor dogs. In San Antonio, definitely outdoor dogs. This is fine with me especially with the new babe.

Well... yesterday Austin & I had the bright idea to watch "Marley & Me." We had seen it before, so I have no idea why we put ourselves through it again. Of course, after it was over we just wanted to cuddle our pooches to pieces... or at least let them inside to hang out. We never thought Brady would have this reaction to his "sister" (Yep, I called my puppies my child... just for Molly)

Brady LOVES Mylie!!! It was the cutest thing ever... so I think we might be seeing more of the dogs in the future....

BIRTHDAYS!

One of our family traditions growing up has been getting breakfast in bed. We always got to pick out our breakfast the night before, and knew we'd get woken up to the whole family singing us "Happy Birthday" with a big tray of food. This was always especially fun because all my siblings had to sit around and watch us eat.

My birthday was a bit different than my other siblings... you see, Meghan, my oldest sister, has a birthday just 5 days after mine. Though she was a few years older than me, we ALWAYS had combined birthday parties, and ALWAYS had the exact same gifts. It didn't bother me as much, since my birthday was first... but poor Meghan always knew what she'd be getting for her birthday 5 days early.

This got me thinking... about my baby... (which I do quite frequently)... and his birthday. For those of you that have forgotten, Brady is just 9 short hours younger than his cousin, Jack. I am sure they will have many birthday parties together (because Brady will be so popular Jack will want to meet all his friends...)... but Brady will know his gifts before his actually birthday, because he will see what Jack opened. This was all fine and dandy when I was growing up because it was a surprise to ME... but not to Meghan. Do you see where my problem is here?? Brady is now Meghan and Jack is now me!!

That's all I got.

Brady's Firsts!

Well... We have officially been in Texas for 2 weeks. These 2 weeks have been big ones for Brady. He has started eating Rice Cereal, AND he went swimming for the first time!

Our pediatrician actually told us we could give Brady the rice cereal after his 4 month appointment. We didn't start right away for two reasons: 1) We wanted to be settled & have some normalcy in our lives before we introduced something new to him, and 2) HE IS STILL A BABY! I have been having a hard time with it. He is still my baby & it means he is growing up if I were to give him rice cereal! But... I put my own emotions aside & we gave him his first rice cereal.

He loved it! And if you want to see a video of his very first bite, watch below! :)

Brady's other first was swimming. Jack (his identical cousin) has been swimming for the past month or so, so we couldn't fall behind! One of my friends, Megan, gave Brady his first swim diapers & a "beach" outfit. Well... he broke them in this past week...

Bald as a Cue-ball

So, in case any of you may have forgotten... my baby was born bald... zero hair. Seriously... when a baby has less hair on his head than his face... he is definitly bald. Well... I KNEW any baby of mine would take awhile to get hair... since I did not have much (if any) as a baby... I just thought it would START to come by now.

Let's look back on birth... and notice his hair (or lack thereof)

So, I think we can all agree that he has absolutly no hair. Well now, let's look at his progress over the past 4 months....

There is no doubt that this is a stinkin' cute kid... but there is no doubt that there is not a single strand of hair on his head either....

This got me thinking, what my mom EXAGERRATING when she said I didn't get hair until I was 5? Let's look back on Browyn as a child.....

Pretty hairless here.... Though I must say I am a pretty cute kid as well!

My mom is an artist... and she had to put a HAT on me so that the pciture she drew of me was more interesting!!
Still... No hair. Not quite sure how old I was in the picture... but old enough to have hair I am sure!!

So, the question is... WHEN will MY son get hair?!?
